For those who call themselves “Mormons”, or affirm that they are a part of “The Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS)”, I’m writing this post for you. I’m hoping that you read this in its entirety whether or not you believe that you are already saved or know what I’m about to write to you. My hope is that before reading any further, that you sincerely pray that God will give you wisdom, understanding, and open your eyes to His Truth (James 1:5).
I believe this blog post can clear things up when it comes to who Jesus really is, who God really is, what sin is, and why all people need to be saved from sin. If you do not believe some or any of the words below, I encourage you to carefully review each Scripture reference below, and if you are confused, please consult a Bible Commentary or a non-LDS elder/pastor. I have provided Bible verses that support each thought below:
According to Scripture, Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation (1). Jesus is not a creature (aka, something created by God), but Jesus is Creator, being fully God and by/through Him all things were created, including Satan (2). There is only one God to worship and no other gods exist (3), and He is eternal meaning that He has always existed and will always exist (4), and this one God exists in three persons, what is called the Trinity (5).
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (6), and “the wages of sin is [both physical and spiritual] death” (7). Anyone who says they are not a sinner (in the past, present, or future in this life on earth), the Truth is not in them (8). Jesus came to save sinners from their sin (9), and reconcile them back to God (10), by His death and resurrection on the cross (11). If you believe and wholeheartedly trust that Jesus can and will save you from your sin, you will be saved (12). Salvation is a free gift (by God’s Grace alone), it cannot be purchased nor can it be gained by our performance (good deeds), if this were so, then Christ had no need to die for the sins of His believers (13).
Why am I sharing this with you? Other than the fact that Jesus commanded us to preach the Gospel to all people (14), it’s also because many false teachers have gone out into the world in order to deceive others and we must know the Truth and be able to wisely discern what is Gospel Truth and what isn’t Gospel Truth (15). Anyone can call themselves anything they like, but it does not mean that it is true. Not everyone who calls themselves a “Christian” are actually Christians (regenerated, saved) (16), which is why Christians need to study God’s Word (Scripture alone, aka the Bible) in order to know what’s Truth and what is false teaching.
