I answered it honestly, and here’s what I put in the comments section. Does anyone agree or disagree?
My top two complaints are about privacy and customization:
1) “Facebook cares about me” -> Then why were there allegations of leaking privacy info? Why use “ads tailored to us” as an excuse to disrupt our privacy? We don’t need Facebook to record audio in the backgrounds from our smart phones so that MAYBE we’ll buy some crap online. If I wanted to buy something, I’ll buy it. No one needs ads thrown at them or have their privacy/security compromised in order to buy things.
2) What’s with “Sponsored posts”? It shouldn’t be on our News Feeds, if I want a product by Company XYZ, then I will like or follow their page for updates so that I can see it. Facebook, you give the users no power over advertising. There may be some people who like sponsored posts, but I’d assume that most people don’t, so give us an option to remove it.
3) Another tip, give the users power to customize the way Facebook looks to them. The look and feel of Facebook now is fine, and make that the new default setting. Some users, like myself, don’t like “the New look of Facebook” so implement a feature where you can customize its appearance.
The reason I joined Facebook years ago was in order to connect with people -> Friends, Family, Co-workers, and keep tabs on old acquaintances. No one joined Facebook for their information to be sold to other companies. No one joined Facebook in order to buy things. We have 100’s of thousands of online stores to pick from, we can look at ads and buy things there. Facebook should be the cool kid out front. It should be the leader of social networks, making privacy #1, making its users happy with feedback from its online community #2, and allowing high user-customization #3. Make that happen Facebook, and you will make tons of money.
